The Beginning of the Exchange

Things were different now.  Few of them had slipped through, making it to safety.  Her brothers hardly spoke to her, only doing so when her father deemed it necessary.  Her father no longer tried controlling what she did, choosing instead to avoid her when he was able to.  People she had once considered friends had disappeared.  Left on her own, she'd muddled her way through the new world, carving out a niche, and a name, for herself.  The few friends that had stayed in touch were ones she wished wouldn't.

It had taken her awhile to find a new purpose for herself.  No longer needing to serve Luukos, she moved aimlessly through her new life until she'd discovered event planning.  The rest, as they say, is history.  She was happy now, happier than she'd ever been, but still an emptiness lingered.  She was thankful for jobs like her current one that allowed her to throw herself into the work.  It seemed to help.

With the smaller population, she'd been worried about her blood source but she found it was, almost, more accessible now.  Humans were so easy to confuse.  The waitress at this particular café was no exception.  Watching Altheorn and the waitress interact had her rolling her eyes, looking back at her laptop.  How easy it must be to bat her eyelashes and pout her lips to get attention.  It wouldn't last, though.  It never did.

Much to her dismay, the male slid in across from her and he placed his order, sending the girl scurrying off.  Resisting the urge to roll her eyes, she stole another glance in the male's direction.  She'd never found what enticed other women.  Yes, he was handsome, more so than many men who had made the trip over.  Yes, he was polite but he was also Nalfein and they'd say anything to get their way.

After messaging her friend and questioning the male, her features remained amused.  He spoke finally, his accented words closing the distance between them. Of course, he couldn't possibly know the conversation she'd had but, still, she found it humorous.

"Oh?  Didn't you know?  You're dancing at some club with Lisette right now." she replied softly, eyes sparkling mischievously.  "I've heard tales of your talents, like everyone else, but this is new.  Have you been able to do it long?"  Oh, she was teasing him now.  Honestly, Nyssia.  Leave the poor boy alone.
